Review of Amoral’s New Album: Beneath [2012]

Band: Amoral
Album: Beneath
Release: February 14, 2012
Genre: Power Metal/Technical Death Metal
Label: The End Records

When thinking of best metal album of the year, bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Slayer always come to mind. These bands are all great, but there is one name missing from this list: Amoral. The Finnish metal band puts their new album, Beneath, right on that list. From Melodic-Power Metal, to soft sounds of acoustic, Amoral has it all on this masterpiece.

To start off with this album, Amoral wrote their epic “Beneath”. This eight minute intro starts off with sounds of an orchestra, something completely new with this ever evolving band. About one minute into it, and the sounds of Ben and Masi’s riffs come in. Along with this song, Ari shows off his range of talent. Hitting everything from clean high notes, to the brutal sounds of death growls, this song has it all. But this is just the beginning of the album, as it goes into “Wrapped in Barbed Wire”. This song is a catchy power metal song, clearly one that fans will be singing along to live. Continuing with the Power metal vibe, the band’s first single “Silhouette” comes into play. This song is a little bit slower, yet very melodic. Ben’s solo has a nice flow with Juhana’s drums, giving it a nice vibe.

Fan’s may have been upset with the direction that Amoral has taken, considering their first three albums were Technical Death Metal. With the track “Won’t Go Home”, the band gives a nod to their death metal style for their older fans. This song has some melodic guitar playing, and very technical drum beats, showing the bands uniqueness. This song is definitely their most brutal song on this album, and does justice for them.
The track “Same Difference” is the explanation for their title of Classic Rock of The 21st Century. This song has a unique balance of heaviness, and classic rock beats, complimenting on Ari’s incredible vocal style.

Beneath is one album that should not go unchecked. This is Amoral’s best album yet, capturing their progressive, Power Metal style, as well as hinting to their Death Metal past. This piece of art will be recognized as one of the best and diverse metal albums of the year. Check these guys out on tour, as their high energy performance will leave viewers hungry for more. Pick up a copy of the album, and be engulfed in this perfect piece of work.
